Advocating for Childcare Solutions that Strengthen Our Workforce

  • April 9, 2025

A thriving business climate starts with addressing real-world workforce challenges—and Forward Sioux Falls has remained committed to advocating for solutions, including accessible and affordable childcare. As a trusted voice at the local, state, and national levels, we work together with elected officials, business leaders, and community partners to drive meaningful change.

Here’s a look at our progress so far:

  • Partnered with DSS and GOED to apply for a statewide childcare grant using ARPA dollars.

2024

  • Awarded $285,000 through the ARPA grant.
  • Funding supported tools, training, and resources to help entrepreneurs open new childcare businesses.
  • Lutheran Social Services graduated 29 participants; Startup Sioux Falls graduated 8.

2025

  • The City of Sioux Falls is exploring a Tri-Share Childcare Program and is currently testing the feasibility using a local consultant.
  • Chamber President & CEO Jeff Griffin was recently appointed to the U.S. Chamber Committee of 100 and participated in the U.S. Chamber Childcare Coalition’s Hill Day in Washington, D.C. to advocate for childcare tax credits and national collaboration on workforce-driven childcare solutions. The work of the Childcare Coalition is ongoing and will increase our access to exploring initiatives finding success in other states. Please reach out to Jeff if you would like to learn more about this work.

From convening local partners to engaging in federal advocacy, Forward Sioux Falls is committed to breaking down barriers so families and businesses can thrive.
